Department of Marine Biotechnology

The school of Marine Science is proud to offer M.Sc., Marine Biotechnology, a new multidisciplinary Post Graduate Programme. The specialty of this subject is it's enormous biodiversity and genetic uniqueness of life in the sea. Its is an emerging field encompassing papers like: Physical and Chemical Oceanography, Marine Biodiversity, Biological Macromolecules, Marine Microbiology, Microbial Genetics, Basic Immunology, Recombinant DNA Technololgy, Marine Microbial Biotechnology, Aquaculture and Bioinformatics and Biostatistics etc., A self study review paper on recent trends of Marine Biotechnology is also administered.

The Department is well equipped (instruments, chemicals and glassware) with the strength of National Facility for Marine Cyanobacteria and Bioinformatics Centre (Sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India)

The faculty of the department are the best qualified and experienced. Students and scholars are given strong insights to theoretical and practical aspects of individual papers by the faculty who are specialized in the subjects. Students are trained well in research oriented techniques (pertaining to industrial applications also), teaching and entrepreneurship. These capabilities emerge from the intensifying convergence of disciplines mentioned in the above which in turn helps the students to become well trained, efficient Marine Biotechnologists.
