Dr. L. UMA
COORDINATOR

Dr. L. UMA the Co-ordinator of Bioinformatics Centre- Sub-Distributed Centre. she Joined the University Service in the year 1991. Her area of specialization is Cyanobacterial Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. She published around 31 research papers in reputed journals. she had generated funds to the turn of 2 Crores through Department of Biotechnology and Department of Science and Technology Schemes.
ABOUT THE CENTRE

The centre was launched by DBT, Govt. of India in April 2001 as a special purpose centre meant for cyanobacteriology. Center conducts training workshops on the basics of bioinformatics every year. The centre assists the National Facility for Marine Cyanobacteria (DBT, Sponsored Facility) and the Department of Marine Biotechnoloby faculty scholars and students by providing infrastructural facilities like internet, email, printing and also conducts bioinformatics theory and laboratory courses for M.Sc and M.Phil programmes and project students. The Bioinformatics Centre at this institute, supported by DBT, has created awareness in cyanobacteria, the primordial organism. The Centre focuses on database generation, data mining and its application in wet lab research. * molecular phylogeny of cyanobacteria, * plasmid sequencing, * cyanobacterial super oxide dismutases, * bioremediating enzymes, * stress associated enzymes and pathways, * methane monooxygenasses, * c3 and c4 pathways.
